Producing a card-sort or loop game:                           back to top

    • Tips to simplify production (25kb, Word).
    • A template (19kb, Word).
    • Loop games: use the technique above to create the cards, but ensure that the answer to the last question is positioned in the table where it would be on the reverse of the first question - each answer is moved on down the column, like this (20kb, Word). Instead of cutting out each individual card, cut out the rows, fold them in half and stick down to create a card with a question on the front and an answer (to a different question) on the back. In this way, assuming you have equal numbers of participants as questions, each will get a turn and finish back at the beginning.
    • A 'taboo game' template.  Taboo is a game involving describing given words WITHOUT being able to use those words which most naturally come to mind, i.e describe 'pizza' without being able to use 'round', 'flat', 'tomato', 'Italy' etc. What about 'evaporation', without using 'water', vapour', 'heat', or 'gas'. The template provides a space for the given word and another for pupils to note the 'taboo' descriptive words. The game can be played as a paired guessing game, in groups or as a whole class, and is useful in developing deeper level understanding of terminology, accessible to poorer readers, and helpful in diagnosis. This template has been constructed using two 'styles' to speed preparation and enable it to be used 'on line' by pupils if desired. Visit the Plenaries page for more on games.

'Word' tip and tricks                                                      back to top

Version 2 (150kb, Word) out now - with added Internet Explorer tips at the back. Mostly of interest to those still using Word as part of Office 98, and printed ideally as an A5 booklet.
