Kate Hamnett, Lead Professional (maths) at Patcham Infant School, recently developed a shape trail around her school for use with Year 1 children. You may want to create a shape trail around your school and the ideas here may support this. For this trail, Kate used a digital camera, a powerpoint slide show and a data projector.

Calligrams to Support mathematical Vocabulary

These mathematical vocabulary sheets are being used in schools within the Excellence in Cities Cluster to support children in using appropriate mathematical vocabulary. To support children's word selection, each sheet is printed onto coloured paper according to the colour code; addition-red, subtraction-yellow, multiplication-green, division-blue. The sheets are then permanently displayed in classrooms. Any words displayed in italics are new words to that year group.
